Double Dark Black Zebra Angelfish
Pure black angel fish exist, but they are often weak fish plagued with problems including aggression and slow growth. Meanwhile, as we wait for breeders to perfect the perfect black angelfish, a few other methods have been developed that produce black angelfish by selectively pairing mates of different varieties whose genetics, (genotype), may not be pure black, but a significant percentage of their offspring will appear black. (Two good words to know: Genotype refers to the actual genes in the fish; Phenotype is what the fish looks like, the expression of the genes.) "Double Dark Black" can mean different genotypes, the Double Dark Blacks at Angelfish Gardens carry the genes of Zebra angels, along with a stripeless gene; the combination produces angels that begin life with stripes, and gradually become totally black by the time they reach one year of age. Double Dark Black pairs at Angelfish Gardens produce spawns of 50%, 75% or 99% DD Blacks, with the remaining percentage being Golds. You can expect your DD Black angels to produce one of these percentages of DD Black angels.
